I have some ACOUSTIC GUITARS on this album. I am not the one playing them, or it, it's one guitar, two different people playing it on different days. And ask me: Did these people expect you to use these takes? The answer is, Maybe--they both know me. What was their interest in contributing? They're my friends, but also, playing music is pretty fun, just to do it at all. I'm all about just doing it at all. I'M VERY SKEPTICAL of my commitment to this idea, to just do a thing at all, but, despite this skepticism I can't shake the initial inkling I'm skeptical of: what is this value on 'not-this'?? Why is what-this-is not so emphasized? Do you see what I'm saying? Clearly I'm hesitant to pin a name to 'not-this'/what-this-is but there are names I could use, I'd just want them presented as little electrons orbiting the to-never-be-defined heart of it all.
So playing music is great fun. SO IS WATCHING A SUNSET. So is seeing that red IG notification. So are puppies! And I love jokes. And I think there's something important to notice here. What is this effort applied to appreciation? Maybe it's just me, totally possible, but, I'm suspicious it's not just me. It's related to pretending to like things because to do otherwise is to encounter stressful/unwanted discussion, but it's not about that, it's about existing in the world, where the current bludgeonings to the idea of a human life are odious and worsening, and we have to accept THIS as substitute, "this is worth it all" Alison Depsky joked upon discovering the ios Messenger updates. Have you thought about all the colors on your phone? All the colors you experienced in rural Iran 1662? Pocahontas anyone??
What I'm getting at is FOLK ART. All aesthetic engagement on a flat ontological field. No innate SPECIALNESS in anything. Yes yes yes, ok ok, sure, but the important thing here is how I'm trying to link this to improvisation and the Instant Composition Pool.
I'm just wondering, aside from "how to sound good" CLEARLY AN IDEOLOGICALLY LOADED concept, but like, really, how to sound good. Uh, how about how to move energy? Sure, how about how to move energy well, effectively, dare I say "correctly??"-- "Energy: Yes, Quality: No" --T.Hirshhorn, fuck yeah love that guy, he know's what's up and that's what I'm talkin about. That Gertrude Stein project to observe everyone because everyone's on the same plane for valuation, I mean, I'm adding my own thoughts there but, I just think there's something important in, as quickly as possible, getting to the point with a person where your ACTUAL modus operandi is in full action. To be oneself always, perhaps, sure, but not as a Yeah, Go You!, like a Yeah, Go You! Because Our Society's Very Existence Is Predicated Upon Full Honesty/Disclosure With A Full Tolerance Of Everything Law At Its Foundation So Each Situation Is A Navigation Of How To Literally Know Everything/Share Everything With That Individual And Decide What To Do From There This Is Very Key So Thank You For Doing You Completely And Not Causing Our Universe To Fly Into Chaos. And that might sound stressful, but like, hey, being 3D probably seems stressful to a 2D person, amiright? Scientists tell me I'm right, and their Los Angeles, CA USA 2017 reasoning makes sense to me, so I'm mostly convinced of it.
I'm just saying that, I think, eventually, in the distant future, long past my carnal time, we're, we humans, we're going to not exist in the way we do now. And I'm just trying to imagine it, I'm trying to imagine what that's like. It's really hard to imagine, but it seems worth imagining? Like, shoot for the moon and hope you land somewhere, uh, outside the Earth's atmosphere suffocating?
Hopefully no, hopefully you do not suffocate. Hopefully you have a Hollywood ending! Hopefully you jump socioeconomic class! I'm imagining a situation in which, to improvise, is not to feel suffocated out in space, but stripped of the weight of an atmosphere, ready to sing Space is the Place and feel the infinity. Ooh yeahhh.
I know you think you know what I mean, but you're not right, at least, I swear there's more.
Which part of the Afternoon in Four Parts is unnecessary? y'know? AND DON'T SAY "ALL OF IT," dick. Cause you know what? I'm starting to think IT'S ALL ESSENTIAL.
